Name: Shayne Gilyeat aka: SHORTY
Age: 23
Years Riding: been riding mtb for 1 year and 9 months now
Bike: NS suburban 26" frame with fox float 36 shocks and double track rims, laced onto NS hubs, profile cranks , NS district bars and an NS Quark stem to top it off
Hometown: Campbelltown NSW
Local shred spot: C'town park, and it aint exactly local but I’m at Red Hill more than any where else
24 or 26" wheels? 26"all the way, love the big wheels
Favourite trick: its hard to describe, but its like a backflip but more a flat 360 so i think it would be a flat spin, but i haven’t got them to dirt yet, still trying to perfect it in the foam pit.
Blondes or Brunettes:::: well my beautiful girlfriend tiffany, "who i love dearly" is still blonde haha so ill have to go with blonde

Worst stack: Um, i haven’t had many big stacks, thankfully, but the most awesome injury i got was, late last year when i came up short trying to jump a dirt set, I tried to jump from the first up ramp the second jumps down ramp but coming up short resulted in my left crank arm snapping off and my ankle twisting around to the point of a pretty nasty dislocation of the foot. Yep, my foot fell off !!. thanks to Adam :)

Funniest story:
I had a dog named Zak a fair while back, while livin at my old house, and the dog loved chasing tennis balls so i was pitching the ball out and Zak would go quickly fetch it and bring it back every time, and when he would bring back he would come running so fast back to where ever i was, so i had a brilliant idea to throw the ball way out in the back yard, around the back of the house then quickly run inside and close the glass sliding door, so i did that, and i got down on my knees waiting for him and as soon as he spotted me, he came belting towards me, ball in his mouth, then takes a big jump up the single step at the bottom of the glass sliding door and then "CRASH" he slams into the shut glass door and bounces off doing the best ever 360 backflip I’ve ever seen and full on lands back on his feet. haha poor dog. that aint animal cruelty, just a funny idea :)

Have you ever been arrested?: haha, um yeah once, my mate got pinned for urinating in public and i didn’t realize that at the time so i got a little agro and just annoyed the crap out of the cops till the point where they threatened me saying they would arrest me if i didn’t walk away, so i did, but after a stumble around the block and without noticing that i had walked in a big circle i was back in the same street where the cops were, and coz i was so drunk all i saw was flashing lights and thought to myself that it would be a sick idea to go see what the commotion was about, then before i knew it i was thrown in the back of the cop car, and my details were taken and i got me a big whopping fine for disorderly behavior or something like that.. kids don’t mess up or get too drunk.. it may result in an expensive fine...

Last time you spewed: at my mate 'fats' house all over his wall and toilet floor, the funny thing is i was full aiming straight into the bowl but didn’t even get one drop in the toilet... Sorry Mrs. MAC

Legs, bum or boobs?:can i have all three?? definitely the bum. there is so much more to play with :)

So what is your local riding scene like? my local scene has heaps of bmx riders, I’m pretty much the only mtb riders that gets down to the skate park on a regular basis. but riding with the bmx guys is cool because there all learning pretty fast and i get to feed of them and learn new stuff all the time.

How often do you get out on your bike? i try to ride as often as i can, so I’m usually at the park most nights of the week, I’m pretty lucky to have a local park which happens to be pretty dam good and has lights till 11pm every night

3 things you love? my bike, riding and messy night with my good friends

3 things you hate? flat tires, broken bike parts and when the beer runs out at messy parties with my good friends

What trick are you working on but struggling with at the moment? superCans, i just can’t seem to do it right

What’s your advice on rider progression, how do you get so good? think about what it is u want to do and try to picture it in your head how to pull it then go for it, never give up on your dreams, I’m only as good as i am because of the riders who influence me, ill see some rad rider do something that looks good and possible for me to do, then think about it for ages and just try it. as long as u wear your stack hat u should be right if you crash. right??

What got you into riding to begin with? well i bought myself a hardtail mtb in january07 after going up to thredbo with a friend (Terry Scarr) to watch and help him out while he did a bit of downhill and 4X racing, and after having a bit of a roll on his 4X bike i just got a little bug in my head saying i should get me one of these.

Describe your (on bike) style in 3 words? boost, fast, awesomeness lol.

Describe your (off bike) style in 3 words? chilled, lazy, messy

Where do you see the hardtail scene here in Australia going within the next few years? cant really see it blowing up like over in Europe and what not. but i would love to see more promoters out there get behind the scene and throw some comps or demos with a crowd so the scene here can become more recognized and maybe then we might be able to have some sort of annual comp or something

How often do you get groms asking if you are sponsored? whats your general response? nearly every time i ride park, i just tell them they should buy an NSbike fro the pushbike factory in campbelltown.

What's been your most memorable MTB experience to date? doing the Newton’s playground comp in Bathurst earlier in the year. definitely memorable because i don’t think I've ever been so scared in my life. those jumps were so big, but next year i promise ya to do better.

Any custom mods to your bike? not really, just a longer brake cable, and shorter spindle spacer in my cranks to get them tighter to stop them spinning when off the bike in flight.

If you could have one signature part what would it be? probably the stem

And so what would you call that part?
"The Shorty's'

What does a 'normal day' in the life of Shorty consist of? wake up, have like a half hour shower, get dressed and drive to work, fabricate what ever needs making at work, eat lunch, work a little more till 3:30pm then jet home and usually put the TV on and watch some Simpson’s and family guy, then jet to the skate park 5 minutes down the road when the sun goes down and stay there till about 9pm, then back home to have a beer or two, then go to bed to do it all over again.
